Warning Signs That Show There Might Be Mold In Your House

Mold is one of the most dreaded unwanted visitors any home could get. It comes unannounced, sneaks into various rooms to make a mess, and stays without you noticing.

The thing about mold is that, in addition to affecting the look of your home, it also leads to widespread health issues; some of which could become severe if not treated. That is why it is very, very important to make sure mold doesn’t make a way into your home.

Mold loves damp areas. That’s where it can reproduce, and that’s where it likes to hang out the most. If you are suspecting there might be mold in your home, it’s time to do an inspection and determine if it is hiding there somewhere.

Here are some of the most common places where mold tends to hide:

Bathroom

Probably the most common area where mold is found is in the bathroom. It’s also the most likely to be noticed. Of course, the environment in a bathroom is ideal for mold growth since it tends to be a place where moisture accumulates, and ventilation is not necessarily ideal. Cleaning your tub, sink, and cabinets regularly will prevent it from growing back.

MoldWindows

It is very common to see condensation on windows, particularly during winter. All that extra moisture is the perfect excuse for mold growth. The accumulation of mold around your windows will affect the aesthetics of your home, but it will also cause it to smell and end up causing health issues by breathing it. Keep a close eye on your windows to see if there’s any mold growing on them. Regular window cleaning will also help prevent this problem.

Basement

The fact that basements are located below ground level makes them prone to humidity. It also doesn’t help that no sunshine will hit that area of the house and that it’s usually a neglected area cleaning-wise. Take time to inspect your basement, at least once a month. Check the corners and the walls, which is where it tends to grow.

Attic

Since attics are so close to the roof, they are prone to mold. If any water leaks into your roof when it rains, it is likely to end up in your attic. So first, inspect your roof to make sure it is in good condition. Check your gutters, too, to prevent water from leaking into your home, and look around your attic to ensure insulation is in place.

Inspect Your Health Too

If you are suffering from allergy symptoms like itchy eyes, hives on contact, nasal congestion, or asthma, that might be a sign that your home has been invaded by mold. A clean house will help you prevent all those issues.
