Tips for Easy Window Screen Cleaning
How to Clean Your Window Screens
Cleaning your windows is one thing, but cleaning your window screens is something else. Window screens are exposed to all kinds of different elements, from wind and rain to dirt and insects. Cleaning them will allow you to enjoy the gentle breeze of the summer but have peace of mind knowing that no insects will invade your home.
Although it is another chore to add to your to-do list, it is not a complicated one to tackle. Here are some tips to help you breeze through it.
Make Sure You Have Everything You Need
First, get your tools in order. You will need a scrubbing brush, a towel, rubber gloves, a garden hose, a bucket, and some ammonia.
Take Out the Screens
On a sunny day, get the screens off of their positions and lay them flat on the floor, outside. You can also use a drop cloth and put them on there to catch all the dirt.
Rinse, Scrub, Rinse
Using the hose, rinse them all the way through to remove anything that might be stuck on them, like dust, insects, and debris. Then, use the brush to scrub the screens with a mixture of warm water and ammonia. Rinse the brush as you go so that you don’t scrub the screens with leftover dirt. Lastly, rinse the screens again with clean water.
Dry Them Off
After rinsing them, shake them off to get rid of any excess water and then use the towel to wipe them down and pat them dry, as much as possible. Leave them out in the sun so they can finish drying.
And there you go. Easy enough, don’t you think? All you need now is to make sure your windows are clean, too, so you can let the light and summer breeze into the house without any problem.
